The course is an overview of American history from the years 1492 to 1877. Students will be immersed in the history of the U.S. through a variety of means - readings, videos, notes, activities, research, projects, speakers, and field trips. Some highlights include:

Grading Scale
A= 90-100
B= 80-89
C=70-79
D=60-69
F= 50-59
***Social Studies grades will be determined using a form of the standards based grading system. 80% of the grade will be based on the assessment of each standard. 20% of the grade will be based on classwork/homework/participation. See attached Standards Based Grading FAQ sheet for more information. This grading system may be different than your child has experienced in the past. If you would like to discuss it in greater detail, please feel free to contact me and I will make arrangements.
Expectations
Side Note: Use of electronic devices - The expectation is that cell phones, ipods, etc., will be put away during class time. There will be plenty of opportunities during class for using chromebooks for music but cell phone will NEVER be necessary. If there is a reason you must have access to your phone, please communicate this respectfully to your teacher at the beginning of the bell. Failure to follow this guideline will result in the loss of your phone for the bell, for the day, and/or detention.
